II Cor. 3:17 "Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty."
On July 4, 1776, the Declaration of Independence was adopted. This document was the written statement concerning the 13 original colonies' act of independence from the British Crown. It was a declaration of total freedom from the rule of Great Britain. This was the beginning of freedom in the United States as we know it today. Through the years, many have given their lives so that we could retain the freedom we often times take for granted.
While many have given their lives so we can enjoy the freedoms of this country, Jesus Christ gave His life so we could enjoy freedom of a greater magnitude! Freedom that is associated with another country! An heavenly country! Hebrews 11:13-16 says: These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country. And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned. But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: where God is not ashamed to be called their God: for He hath prepared for them a city."
Let's not neglect to remember the freedom Jesus has given us from the bondage of sin and destruction. Let's remember our day of accepting Jesus' offer of liberty--our Independence Day!
In closing, If you can't celebrate an Independence Day in the Lord, today is a good day to accept Jesus' offer to total independence from the world! John 8:32,36 says: And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free...If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed."
