Pike County Hosting Swine Flu Summit
The summit will take place Tuesday, September 29 at 1:00 p.m. at the East Kentucky Exposition Center.

PIKEVILLE, Ky (WSAZ) -- The Pike County Fiscal Court is partnering with the Pike County Health Department, the Pike County Office of Emergency Management and East Kentucky Broadcasting, in hosting a summit to inform citizens about the dangers and preventative measures related to the H1N1 (Swine Flu) virus.

The summit will take place Tuesday, September 29 at 1:00 p.m. at the East Kentucky Exposition Center.

“H1N1 could affect up to 30 or 40 percent of the county’s work force,” Pike County Judge-Executive Wayne T. Rutherford said. “The fiscal court is doing our part in helping get the word out.”

The summit will last roughly two hours and feature presentations by Dr. William Hacker, Commissioner for the Kentucky Department of Public Health, Crystal Newsome, Preparedness Planner for the Pike County Health Department, Doug Tackett, Pike County Emergency Management Director, Roger Wagner, Pike County Superintendent of Schools and Dr. Boyd Buser, of the Pike College School of Osteopathic Medicine.

There will also be panel discussions and a question-and-answer session.

“We believe at least some preparation for this virus should be community-wide,” Rutherford said. “Now is the time to plan to meet your objectives in the event of a reduced staff. You do not want an ill person to spread this disease in your workplace or school."
