Your Labor!

I Corinthians 15:58 "Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord."
Webster’s Dictionary defines labor as to exert one’s physical or mental efforts especially when difficult or compulsory. Webster’s also defines labor as to suffer from some disadvantage or stress. In each case, we find labor to not be an easy thing.
In the world in which we live, we have to labor to earn a living. This was first pronounced upon Adam after he had sinned, when God said: “And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field; In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.” (Gen 3:17-19)
When you labor in a workforce, many times you put in long hours, for low pay, and little recognition. Many times you may feel like you are at a disadvantage because of others connections or friendships. You give of your self to find yourself many times going unappreciated and faced with the frustration of not benefiting from your labor. Some would say that a paycheck within itself should be enough, but I feel that many would like to think that their labor and work is appreciated and means something.
It becomes heart-wrenching sometimes to know that you gave it your all; or perhaps went above and beyond the call of duty; only to find yourself stuck on the bottom or even worse unemployed!
With the Lord, your labor will always pay off! Not only in paychecks down here, but also advancement up the Lord’s ladder of success! There is no unemployment with Him! And even when it seems that you are suffering from some disadvantage or stress, He sees your efforts and rewards those that diligently seek Him.
In closing, as we are soon to be celebrating Labor Day, let's take time to reflect on our laboring for the Lord. While others may not fully appreciate all that you do, know that with the Lord, your labor is not in vain!
